The Hungerford, a Group 2 race for three-year-olds and older run over seven furlongs on the straight track at Newbury, is always a competitive affair and it looks to be a strong renewal this year.

Heading the market is the Aidan O’Brien-trained Gustav Klimt, who has campaigned exclusively in Group 1s since a winning reappearance at Leopardstown in April.

He performed creditably in coming second to Without Parole in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and again in a fourth placed finish behind Lightning Spear in the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last time out.

While the drop in class here makes him a worthy favourite, there was enough to suggest in that Goodwood run that Gustav Klimt may be better suited to a slightly longer trip, and we’re happy to swerve at a price of just 2/1.

Librisa Breeze, trading at around 7/2, was the short-priced favourite for this race last year before being beaten into second, and we’re happy to take the chance he’ll miss out again.

It’s been just a fortnight since a big effort in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville, and the Champions Sprint at Ascot in October may be a more realistic winning target.

Sir Dancelot has strong claims at 10/3 after winning at Glorious Goodwood but we’ll take an each-way chance on Sir Michael Stoute’s Dream of Dreams at 8/1.

The four-year-old, who won in a listed race at Doncaster at the end of 2017, has improved in every run since reappearing in April and ran well here at Newbury when coming third in the Hackwood in July.

He has been popular in the antepost betting this week, coming in from an opening 12/1, and we’ll follow the money.

Don’t forget, Betfair Sportsbook are offering a free bet of up to £25 for every winner at 3/1 or over during ITV racing on Saturday (free bet matching original stake, max £25).
