Colin Tizzard will wait for winter ground to come before unleashing Thistlecrack over fences.

The Dorset handler decided not to enter his champion staying hurdler for his chasing debut at Chepstow this weekend because conditions looks like being on the quick side.

The eight-year-old will be an exciting prospect over the bigger obstacles after winning all his five starts over hurdles last term, including the World Hurdle at Cheltenham and the Liverpool Stayers' Hurdle at Aintree.

"He's absolutely fine, but we looked at the going there on Saturday and he's not quite ready to run," said Tizzard.

"The going is firm in patches, I thought. He wants winter ground.

"I haven't looked anywhere else. He didn't come in until July 20, so he hasn't had 12 weeks yet and horses like him don't come along very often."
