A full field of 18 line up for Saturday's big betting race, the Totescoop6 Challenge Cup at Ascot , and it looks as competitive as ever.

The seven furlong race for three-year-olds will feature a who’s who of hardened handicappers including Buckstay, who takes his chance again attempting to win back to back renewals of the race.

He’s been in tremendous form this season for Peter Chapple-Hyam but it looks like he’s paid the price for his success and is carrying a bit too much weight to get his head in front.

Growl was the subject of a huge gamble for the Ayr Gold Cup two weeks ago and just failed to get the better of Brando who is undoubtedly a group horse in waiting. Although Growl ran a decent race over the same distance in the Bunbury Cup, the jury is still out over whether this is his optimum trip and he will likely be racing for minor honours.

Of the others at the top end of the weights, a strong case can be made for Librisa Breeze who is a course and distance winner and was just denied at The Royal Meeting, he should certainly be on the shortlist and has a favourite’s chance.

However, the last six winners of the race have been rated between 100 and 105 which counts against Librisa Breeze, but does certainly bring Afjaan into the equation. He was impressive when winning the London Mile last time and the drop back to 7f shouldn’t be a problem. His second place earlier in the season to a subsequent Listed winner reads well and he looks to be a rapidly improving horse.

With Betfair offering a free bet to the same stake for every 3/1+ winner on the Sportsbook for Channel 4 races (max stake £25, T&Cs apply), take the ever-reliable Frankie Dettori & William Haggas partnership to strike again on Saturday with Afjaan at around 10/1.
