EDUARD is ready to run in Huntingdon’s Peterborough Chase on Sunday and swerve a race at Aintree 24 hours earlier.

Nicky Richards’ six-year-old made a pleasing return to action at Carlisle last month, finishing second to Many Clouds.

Given Oliver Sherwood’s stable star won the Hennessy Gold Cup on Saturday and Eduard was attempting to give him 6lb and was beaten just over a length in Cumbria, Nicky is rightly looking forward to seeing six six-year-old gelding confirm his potential.

Also among the 12 entries for Huntingdon’s biggest race of the season are Wishfull Thinking, Rolling Aces and Wonderful Charm.

■ Connections of The Tullow Tank are awaiting the results of tests after he finished doon the park in the Drinmore Novice Chase on Sunday.

A dual Grade One winner over hurdles for Philip Fenton, he was the late Dessie Hughes’ final winner on his debut over fences in November.

Now in the care of Sandra Hughes, he was sent off favourite for one of the best renewals of the Drinmore for many years but ran like a dodgy pool table.

■ Aidan Coleman is hoping Houblon Des Obeaux can show he’s capable of holding his own in the best company following his classy effort to finish second under top weight in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury on Saturday.

The seven-year-old, trained by Venetia Williams, went close to emulating Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Denman, who carried the steadier of 11st 12lb to victory in 2007 and 2009.

Houblon Des Obeaux is unlikely to contest handicaps, so will have to take on the best and possibly have another crack at the Gold Cup in which he was ninth last season.

■ Sheikh Fahad Al Thani dug into his bulging wallet at Tatts to produce 4.5m guineas to buy Irish 1000 Guineas winner Just The Judge. She was previously owned by Qatar Racing and the Sangster family.

■ Jim Culloty is looking forward to getting his Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Lord Windermere back on the course in the John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown on Sunday.

The eight-year-old is among nine horses standing their ground at the confirmation stage and while the trip might be on the short side, Culloty is looking for a decent show.

“The horse is fit and well and while two and a half miles is a slightly inadequate trip, we are hoping for a good run to kick off his campaign this season,” said the Mallow handler.
